Theatre of the Oppressed Scotland & Hip Hop Ed (TOSCOT)

Aftercare Resources

Introduction:
Engaging in Theatre of the Oppressed work can be deeply moving, as it often deals with social issues and personal experiences. It is important to recognise that some themes may bring up strong emotions. Here are some aftercare resources to help you process and reflect on your experience. If you need further support, consider reaching out to one of the organisations listed below.

Please note that TOSCOT is not a crisis service, and we're not professionally trained to offer support during mental health emergencies.
Thankfully, there are amazing organisations out there that can.
You'll find a list of them below — and if you know of others doing great work, drop us a line at info@toscot.co.uk

Self-Care Tips After Participating in TOSCOT

  • Give yourself time to reflect: After the workshop, take a quiet moment to reflect on the emotions and thoughts that came up for you. Journaling can be a helpful tool for processing.

  • Engage in grounding exercises: If you feel overwhelmed, grounding techniques such as deep breathing, mindfulness, or a short walk in nature can help bring you back to the present moment.

  • Talk to someone you trust: If you find yourself needing to discuss your experience, reach out to a trusted friend, family member, or a professional therapist.

  • Continue the conversation: Theatre of the Oppressed encourages dialogue around difficult social issues. Consider attending more workshops, joining advocacy groups, or getting involved in social justice initiatives.
